Power Hour

Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon our studio has 'Power Hour'. At the beginning of the term we selected a topic of interest. We got to select from one of the following; Arts and Crafts with Mrs Smith, Upcycling with Miss S, Fooding with Mr Stewart, Coding with Elizabeth (our IT specialist), Dancing like the Stars (Sandy Gray and Kathy) and Scouts skills with Matt (Youth Worker). We love this as it gives us 'hands on' experiences in a topic that we are passionate about! Check out the powerpoint below!

We have created games in coding and it is hard work but heaps of fun!

We are learning to read our recipes very carefully! The food we bake is so yummy and it is always gone before 3pm :)
Kathy even dances with us, look ^...

We love learning to tie different knots!

Making plastic bottle streamers.
Creating paper mache treasure boxes.

Inquiry Term 2 - From Switch to Source

During Term 2 we have been learning about the power of the sun and the importance of it within our everyday lives. Also, we are learning about energy sources, how they are created and how we can harness these to power our lives. Keep an eye on the blog for more updates soon!

Here are a couple of Pic Collages...

We are also going to learn what makes Rāwhiti a Schoolgen School. If you want to check it out follow this link...

You can also find out more about how much the school is running off the Grid as opposed to the power created by the school's solar panels! It's interesting stuff. Just click here

Supermarket Hunters

Day 1
Chloe from the Heart Foundation welcomed us to the Food for Thought Programme on Wednesday 30th March 2016. Chloe taught us about the food pyramid and what kind of foods to eat; Everyday foods, sometimes foods and occasional foods.

Day 2
On this day Chloe taught us how to use nutrition labels on the back of packaged foods. We looked at the best breakfast to have and we found out that Wheatbix and Rolled Oats was the best breakfast you can have.

Day 3
We went to the supermarket and studied the nutritional information on food labels to find everyday and occasional foods which we recorded on a sheet.

We had heaps of fun and learned a lot! Thanks so much Chloe you were amazing!

Creativity and Learning!

We have been busy being creative building things, working together and learning about the life cycle of Monarch Butterfly. Everyone has been loving seeing the caterpillars evolving a chrysalis and then into a butterfly. We had so many caterpillars we had to take some home to ensure they could survive!

We love building pyramids with the speed cups!

Tyler proud of his pyramid!

We have been learning about relaxation techniques!
